舊金山經文處賴處長銘琪近期就臺灣參與聯合國投書主流媒體，獲本地最大報紙舊金山紀事報(San Francisco Chronicle)9月9日於第A12版刊出。
賴處長在這篇題為「台灣應獲邀參與聯合國」(Put Taiwan in U.N.)的投書中指出:舊金山巨人隊上週二甫與臺灣交通部觀光署、駐舊金山台北經濟文化辦事處和長榮航空合作，舉辦台灣傳統夜活動(Taiwan Heritage Night)。
投書並稱棒球是臺美間的共同愛好，臺灣不遺餘力地與理念相近夥伴一起慶祝許多共同點。除了體育和文化之外，臺灣還致力於維護全球和平與穩定的共同目標。全球一半的海運貿易經過臺灣海峽，臺灣在維持國際經濟生態系統上扮演重要角色。此外，臺灣是半導體和人工智慧高階晶片的主要生產國。
該投書也強調台灣致力於聯合國的永續發展目標及其對平權、環境永續發展和創新的呼籲。 然而，由於對聯合國大會第2758號決議的曲解，錯將臺灣與中國混為一談，否定了臺灣的參與權利，因此臺灣仍然被排除在聯合國之外。
投書並表示許多國際組織和美國官員都認為，國際社會因此錯失了一個珍貴的合作夥伴，並支持臺灣參與聯合國。
該投書呼籲聯合國正確解讀第2758號決議，讓臺灣有意義地參與即將舉行的第79屆聯合國大會。”
駐舊金山辦事處表示，舊金山紀事報是本地最大的主流報紙，紙本發行量約25萬份，影響力廣泛。這篇投書係該報本年所刊第二則賴處長有關臺灣參與重要國際組織之投書，前篇投書刊於今年5月3日A14版，標題為”Include Taiwan in Forum”(臺灣應獲邀參與世界衛生大會)。
Put Taiwan in U.N.
The San Francisco Giants teamed with the Taiwan Tourism Administration, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco and EVA Air last Tuesday to present Taiwanese Heritage Night.
Baseball is a shared love between Taiwanese and American communities, and Taiwan spares no effort in celebrating its commonalities with like-minded partners. Beyond sports and culture, Taiwan shares the goal of protecting global peace and stability.
Half of the world’s seaborne trade passes through the Taiwan Strait, giving Taiwan a significant role in upholding the international economic ecosystem. Moreover, Taiwan is a paramount producer of semiconductors and high-end chips for artificial intelligence.
Taiwan works diligently toward the United Nations’ sustainable development goals and its call for equality, environmental sustainability and innovation.
However, Taiwan is still excluded from the United Nations due to distortions of U.N. General Assembly Resolution 2758, which denies the country’s right to participate by conflating it with China.
Consequently, the international community misses out on a valuable partner. Many international organizations and U.S. officials agree, expressing their support for Taiwan’s inclusion in the U.N.
We call on the U.N. to correctly interpret Resolution 2758 and allow Taiwan to meaningfully participate in the upcoming 79th U.N. General Assembly.
