在週六一個儀式上，通過Richmond-San Rafael Bridge連接Marin和Contra Costa兩縣的Bay Trail新6英里路段啟用。

來自Metropolitan Transportation Commission和Bay Area Toll Authority、Caltrans District 4、Contra Costa Transportation Authority、 Chevron、Richmond和Transportation Authority of Marin的官員在Richmond舉行的這一公眾獻禮上發言。

這條橫跨大橋的道路是一項耗資2000萬元、為期4年的試點專案。該專案將大橋上的右肩改造成一條對騎自行車人和行人開放的道路。

這條新道路與Richmond-San Rafael Bridge上車流相隔，方式是在橋上層使用一個可移動障礙物，它可以通過「拉鏈」卡車重新定位。

該專案受到自行車和步道活動人士的歡迎，但也因費用受到批評，同時也遭到那些擔心殘疾人車輛無法進出路肩的人的批評。
