成立兩年的Bay Area Transit Oriented Affordable Housing Fund成為U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)美國環境保護署2012National Award for Smart Growth Achievement獲勝者。這個5000萬元的迴圈貸款基金位居七個獲勝者之列。今年的獲勝者在使用創新性方法建設可持續社區和保護民眾健康方面成績顯著。
“2012 National Award for Smart Growth Achievement獲勝者正在採取創新措施實現美國社區的願景，那就是清潔、健康、環保和經濟活力。”EPA署長Lisa P. Jackson說。
Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)於2010年啟動Bay Area Transit Oriented Affordable Housing Fund，撥款1000萬資金設立迴圈基金，為灣區鐵路和巴士沿線經濟適用房專案獲取土地提供融資。其他貸款基金投資單位包括Morgan Stanley; Citi Community Capital; the Ford Foundation; the San Francisco Foundation; the Silicon Valley Community Foundation;一個名為Living Cities的基金和財務機構合作體，以及六個社區開發財務機構。
Bay Area Transit Oriented Affordable Housing Fund從25個州47個申請單位中勝出。獲勝者的挑選標準包括：創立可持續發展社區卓有成效；促進公眾、私人和非盈利相關利益者之間的公平發展；以及在開發環保和經濟可持續發展專案上為全國起到示範作用。
EPA於2002年創立the National Award for Smart Growth Achievement，旨在表彰在綠色環保、激發經濟活力和提高生活品質等方面表現突出的開發方式。過去11年裏，來自26個州的54個單位成為獲勝者，他們充分展現了州、地區、城市、郊區和鄉村在創建實現經濟環保雙贏的開發專案上所採用方式的多樣性。EPA’s Office of Sustainable Communities 負責管理這一頒獎專案。
